Toni Leland has been deeply involved with the written word since 1973. Building on her background in medical and clinical transcription, Toni organized the first medical temporary services company in Portland, Oregon. In 1985, Toni moved to Connecticut and established her own advertising agency, Equine Graphics. From those beginnings, she went on to own and publish two trade magazines in the equine industry, acting as managing editor, while continuing her graphic design and copy-writing duties in advertising.
In 1992, Toni's unique business was featured in Home Office Computing magazine as an unusual and unique home-based business. Later that year, the MacWorld Expo in Boston issued an invitation for Toni to speak on a panel of designers and writers. The North American Horsemen's Association contracted for a national promotional project involving the writing and editing of an educational book to be part of a 2-phase plan. Toni and her husband, Bob, produced and printed the highly successful marketing materials. Over the years, Toni has designed and written several national organizational directories, regulation books, and promotional materials.
In 1994, SmallHorse Press was inaugurated, -another first. SmallHorse Press enjoys the prestige of being the only company in the world that produces how-to books and videos about the Miniature Horse breed. All the books were either written or edited by Toni. SmallHorse Press has 10 individual book titles and 9 videos in its catalog. In 1997, the Lelands moved to Ohio and added New Concord Press to their organization, offering a much-needed service to the academic and civic communities in the area. Local authors have continued to pass the word about the care and experience that the Lelands lend to each project they undertake. The range of work since the company began covers historical through inspirational through fantasy and poetry.
An author herself, Toni extends her critiquing and copy-editing skills to local and internet writer's groups, serves as a judge for writing contests, and attends workshops and conferences on writing and all its various aspects. Toni is a member of the Columbus Ohio Fiction Writers group and Romance Writers of America.
