by Susan Carlson Scott

Fip's Cover

What could be more magical than a blue whale?    Or the Power of Yellow?

The magic of color springs to life through Fip-a tiny woman who's having a bad hair day! Armed with her trusty purple bag of tricks, Fip rules the Land of Colors.

Through Fip's exciting magic, Margaret learns about love and trust, a blue whale is saved from danger, Alex learns the importance of respect, and the "lost color" comes home. Fip's Magical World of Color, by Susan Carlson Scott, teaches children the properties of primary and secondary color mixing on a creative and interesting level. Ms. Scott's imaginative illustrations and use of color bring the unique characters to life. As somewhat of a "fairy godmother," Fip not only teaches the properties of color mixing, but is able to show many characteristics of humanity.

Susan Scott, an extremely talented and innovative painter and textile artist, developed the "Fip" series while working as a pre-school teacher in St. Louis, Missouri. "I found very limited written resources that dealt with color mixing on a creative and interesting level, so I sat down one day to write and illustrate stories that encompassed what I had been looking for."

The series is geared to aid not only teachers, but parents, grandparents, and art instructors, in teaching the understanding of color properties in an exciting way. The children who have "reviewed" the book have fallen in love with the characters and their adventures. As one reviewer put it, ". . . Our children need more friends like Fip!" Fip's Magical World of Color is full-color, 64 pages, with a brilliant hard-cover and dust-jacket.

About the Author

Susan C. ScottSusan Carlson Scott was born in Jamestown, New York. As a graduate of Fredonia State College, Buffalo State College, and Marshall University, she has earned degrees as an artist and teacher.

While working in St. Louis, Missouri as a pre-school/art teacher, Ms. Scott developed this series of short stories. Fip's Magical World of Color teaches children the properties of primary and secondary color mixing.

The primary motivation behind the Fip stories was described by the author: “As a pre-school teacher, I found very limited written resources that dealt with color mixing on a creative and interesting level. I sat down one day and decided to write and illustrate stories that encompassed what I had been looking for.”

The author's objectives for the book–particularly with concern to the Fip character–were two-fold.

"I wanted young school-aged children to find color mixing exciting and magical. By injecting a main character that becomes somewhat of a "fairy godmother" over the other characters, she not only teaches the properties of color mixing, but is able to teach characteristics of humanity. With help from Fip, the characters learn valuable lessons about love, friendship, respect, and acceptance."

The series is geared to aid not only teachers, but parents, grandparents, and art instructors, in teaching the understanding of color properties in an exciting way. The children who have "reviewed" the book have fallen in love with the characters and their adventures.
